The vintage

The 2018 vintage was marked by abundant rain that brought welcome relief to the Provençal vegetation that was able to recover after a particularly dry summer in 2017. Combined with high temperatures during the growing season, this humidity resulted in unprecedented levels of mildew in the vines and consequently very low yields.
Fortunately the frequent use of essential oils and plant based tisanes, together with our biodynamic practices and a magnificent autumn, limited the damage and enabled us to bring in superb grapes.

Terroir

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is characterized by the diversity of its soils, with a mosaic of plots where different varieties grow together on limestone rock, round pebbles on a clay substrate with varying amounts of iron, and fine sedimentary sand.

In the vineyard

Selected plots, of mainly old vines of the 13 varieties of the appellation planted together.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard. Co-fermentation, long vatting for soft extractions.

Ageing

Matured for 12 months in conical vats, foudres and barrels.

Robert Parker

Cedary overtones appear on the nose that said, it's not overdone, with plenty of cola, plum and spice notes coming through on the full-bodied palate. Velvety and supple in the mouth, this seductive offering should drink well for a decade.

{...} Not far off the style of the classiccuvée, only deeper and richer, it has a smoking bouquetof ripe redcurrants, smoked blueberries, roastedgarrigue, ground pepper, and scorched earth.Beautifully concentrated, medium to full-bodied, withbuilding tannins and a great finish.

Decanter

This is a vivid and bright style without excesses with tannins that are gently grippy and give a sense of persistence to the wine.
