OUR ROOTS

Paul Régine

Paul Coulon, the 6th generation, is the memory of Domaine de Beaurenard. Over many years he has been the author of the day-to-day life of the estate. This skillful vigneron cultivated the vines, made the wine in the intimacy of his cellar, actively participated in the social life of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and was secretary to Baron Leroy, father of the appellation. His father, Léon, the 5th generation, along with his elders, signed each bottle with their name and today there are still bottles in the family reserve dating from 1929 signed “Léon Coulon”. Paul Régine went a step further, and officially established the entity “Domaine de Beaurenard” which in time would become a renowned name. They fiercely defended their commercial independence, travelling the world with only the intrinsic excellence of their wines for ambassador, and were one of the first to champion the French vineyards.

Daniel Frédéric

Daniel, their eldest son, joined them in 1980, followed eight years later by Frédéric. They succeeded where many have failed, working as a family. Together they revolutionized the agriculture of their time, leading the way in vineyard practices and care for the vines. They had the vision to recognize the potential of the Rasteau terroirs, and to build the reputation of a hitherto relatively unknown winegrowing region. With time and courage, and guided by their intuition, they saw their efforts rewarded in 2010 when Rasteau was officially designated as a Cru. They extended their range with two wines that have now become iconic: Le Bois Renard Les Argiles Bleues.

Victor Antonin

Today, it is once again two brothers who are at the helm of the family enterprise. Victor, Daniel’s eldest son, came on board in 2016, followed by his brother Antonin in 2017. Victor as cellarmaster oversees the winery, winemaking, and export, and Antonin has responsibility for the vines and the soils, which are nurtured through close observation and a made-to-measure approach. Both are driven by the desire to create great wines with a real sense of place, that are balanced, complex, exhilarating, distinguished and elegant.
